Waitress Faux Pas?

John & I went out to dinner on Saturday night to a steak place that we had never been to before. While checking out the "specials" menu, I saw a pic of these shoestring onion-looking things, that looked really good, so when the waitress came to the table for our order, I asked her about them. She told me they were great, so along with the prime rib sliders I ordered, I asked for a side order of the onion thingys. John ordered some ribs and a side of french fries. When our meals came, I noticed that my meal had already come with the onion thingys and John's had already come with fries! Don't you think the waitress should have alerted us to the fact that our meals were going to come with what we were ordering sides of? So now, we double paid for food that we left half untouched, 'cause we couldn't eat double the portions! I'm not one to cause a problem at a restaurant unless it's a huge issue, so I didn't say anything, but I feel like she should've said something! By the way, it did NOT say on the menu that my food came with those onion thingys (Thanks Wade...no faith in me!)

What do you think? Shouldn't she have said something?

Chris

  1. I think so. I was a server for a few years and I always told people things like that. Some people are just trying to get every extra quarter on their checks though.

  2. she absolutely should have told you the dinners came with those items or it should have been printed on the menu.

  3. Even if the menu said that they were included, she absolutely should have said something!

I would have been upset if I had to pay double for something because I wasn't informed by my waitress.

  4. She definitely should have said something. Any good waiter/waitress would have told you that your meals came with the onion thingys and there was no need to order 2 sides.

  5. The restaurant was wrong for not stating that on the menu AND the waitres was absolutely 100% wrong for not telling you!

Like you, I don't like to make an issue about minor things, but this was just plain unfair! You should have spoken up and pointed out that she was wrong for not telling you and ask for your extra sides to be taken off the bill.

  6. I totally agree with you Chris! The server should have definitely said something to you and your husband about the sides already coming with your meal. To me that is just bad customer service. You are nicer than I am because I absolutely would have complained!
