She forgot how to walk!
A big day yesterday...Bailey got her 1st pair of shoes! I was so excited...a little more freedom for her...especially outside...she can walk around and explore. My mom went to the store with us...she was just as excited as I was...she's bought each of her grandchildren their first pair of shoes...cute! I didn't go with the traditional looking white, boot-like, first baby shoes...she got a pink & brown pair of sneakers and another softer, cutesy pair...brown with pink flowers. The man put the first pair on and let me tell you, she was not a happy little girl! Oh boy! She started crying and pulling at her feet...she didn't want anything to do with those shoes! I had forgotten that Brady did the same thing at first! I finally got her to take a few steps, and it was as if she had forgotten how to walk! She cried and cried....but, they tell you to keep them on as long as possible so she can get used to them. She did eventually...by later in the day she was much better, and her sitter just texted me and said she's walking all over the place today...phew...I'm so relieved. I felt so bad putting her through that. I guess it didn't help that right from the shoe store I had to take her to the pediatrician for a Chicken Pox vaccine...poor thing...she must have hated me yesterday! Today's a better day though! :)
Did your child react that way to shoes too?????

We started our daughter on the soft shoes when she was really little, probably around 4 months, whenever we went out, just to get her used to wearing them (and keep her feet a little warmer in the cold), and she was VERY interested in them and would always try to stick them in her mouth! Lol. She outgrew those within a couple of months so we moved onto another pair of soft shoes that were better because they just slid on (they had fake shoelaces) so she wasn't trying to undo anything to try to take them off. She had trouble walking in them at first, but then she was fine...until we put her in "big girl shoes." She got some hand-me-downs from a cousin and those included some sneakers that had never been worn. Our daughter had a lot of trouble in them at first, I think because they have hard soles and she just wasn't used to that, or the heavier feeling of the sneakers. She does great in them now, but still turns one of her feet in a little bit when she walks in them (which she doesn't really do in bare feet).
ReplyDeleteIt's so amazing to watch them grow and change and discover how to get used to something that seems so simple to us-walking in shoes! :)
Because of this post I went out and got my 8 month old a pair of pre walker shoes to weird once in awhile in the coming months. Thanks!
