Help! Potty Problem!
So, my potty trained child has regressed! Everyone warned me that Brady may regress when the baby was born, and I thought we had escaped it, because he was fine up until a few days ago! I'm devastated because I worked so hard to get him trained, remember? I could cry! Well, you all helped me get him trained through your tips, so now I need your help on what to do now! I sent him to his little summer camp this morning in underwear, 'cause I can't bear the thought of taking such a giant step backwards! What did you do?

Well, there's a 6 year age difference between my boys, so I didn't have any regressing. As a matter of fact, I had a 6 year old who knew how to change his brother's diaper.
ReplyDeleteBut I digress ... I say, pull out the stops. Tell Brady he'll get a new action figure, or Lego toy, or whatever it is he's into, when he wears the Big Boy Pants for three days, or a week, or whatever time frame you think he can handle.
As he gets back into the habit, lengthen the time between rewards.
It worked with my oldest. I kept the cost of the "prize" around $5, and it worked like a charm.
A new baby is a big adjustment for someone who's been the baby for so long. In my opinion, bribery is not out of the question.
I agree with the other comment, a little "reinforcement" for staying dry/using the potty is a good and helpful thing. One variation may be to get a sitter & go somewhere only with Brady, that only "Big Boys" in underwear can go. The baby has to stay home b/c she is in diapers and it's only for big boys - chuck e cheese or out for ice cream or whatever. Make sure he gets his own Mommy time will also help. Good luck, We miss you on air.
