Finally, she did it...twice!

Bailey slept through the night last night...and this is the 2nd time this week! I feel amazing today, even though I still only got about 5 or 6 hours sleep, 'cause it was uninterrupted! I've probably just jinxed us by talking about it, but I had to share my excitement! When she was first born, she slept through the night frequently, starting at about 6 weeks...and we got so prematurely spoiled! I was bragging to people about how my baby was already sleeping through the night(and now, I hate it when people do that to me, 'cause I'm still getting up, like a zombie!)...and then, it stopped, and she really hasn't done it since, until now! What's so funny is when she wakes up in the middle of the night, we dread getting out of bed, but, when she's peacefully sleeping in the middle of the night, we voluntarily jump out of bed to check on her! You know if you're a parent...the whole check-to-see-if-they're-breathing thing!

Anyway, cross your fingers for us that we've turned a corner!

When did your baby start sleeping through the night? What was your trick?

Chris

  1. Chris, I have 2 kids. The first one, a girl, now 15 who sleeps all the time....did NOT sleep the night until she was FOUR years old. Needless to say, I was not thinking about having a 2nd child. Six and 1/2 yrs later, a baby boy is born. This kid slept the night at week 2 and continued sleeping the night for 7 months. Then, I returned to work and he went into daycare. Routine changed and bam...he was back to waking up at 11pm and then 4am. The 4am was brutal. By the time, I got him back to sleep, my alarm was going off for work. Can you say: Family Bed!!!

  3. My daughter has also been sleeping through the night pretty much since she was born. I think what made her sleep even better was when she rolled over at 3 1/2 months. She is now 6 1/2 months old and sleeps 9-10 hours a night. I do help her fall asleep, on my lap, so I am not sure if that helps or not. I usually place her in her crib after 10 minutes or so, and she rolls onto her stomach and stays asleep. She does eat rice cereal or oatmeal twice a day, along with a fruit or vegetable each time, and about 22 ounces of (soy) formula. Maybe the babies aren't eating enough and that's why they're waking up? Or maybe they are sleeping too much/napping too late during the day? My daughter takes an hour nap in the morning, a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and about an hour nap in the late afternoon/early evening. However, she does go to sleep around 9:30-10:00 p.m.

I am a new parent so I don't have much experience, all I can say is that my daughter does sleep really well in my arms, so maybe that helps her get into a deep sleep before going into the crib.
