Silly Bandz!
They're everywhere! My 4-yr-old son is wearing them now...everyone is! You know what they are, right? Think back to the 80s...those jelly bracelets...the ones Madonna wore all up & down her arms! Same concept here, except these bracelets are shaped like different things...animals, instruments, sports things, etc. We were chatting about them this morning because Brady was bringing his in for Show n Tell at Preschool today...I just wanted to make sure they were really for boys as well as girls. Turns out the boys are crazy about them too! They trade them with friends. Turns out some schools have already banned them because the kids have become obsessed with them, and they're disrupting classes! Wow!
Couple of questions:
1. Any adults wearing them? I think it would be fun!
2. Are there rare ones...the ones that everyone wants, but are hard to find?
3. Are the Dollar Store ones different from the originals? Can you tell the difference?
Let's chat Silly Bandz!!! What do you know!

Chris, My high school sophomore daughter introduced the silly bandz to her 9 yr old brother about 2 months ago. Instant hit. While at the Hallmark Store in Mercer Mall, he noticed them on a rack. He picked out a package with Pirates as well as a pack with dinosaurs. A few days later, I was in Bed, Bath and Beyond, they had a huge bin of them but under a different brand name and much cheaper. So, if you fear Brady will trade them all or loose them, go for the knock off's. It's only a phase! I've survived Pokeman card trading and more. They soon get tired of it!
ReplyDeleteHey Chris,
ReplyDeleteYour son is only 4 well I have a 9 year old son who has the silly bands and they trade them like baseball cards. The boys love them. They have kind of faded a little to a new thing...Have you or any one on staff heard of Mighty Beans..OMG..the money we spend on this stuff..Your Fan NJH-Bridgewater, NJ
Definitely for boys too. A lttle late on this posting but just caught it. My son just turned 8 (2nd Grade) and he has a few that his "girls who are friends" gave him, and he's asked for some. They make them in very boyish styles too (Dinosaurs and piarates as another posted pointed out). So no harm - they trade them, lose them, collect them. He'll probably forget about them by next month so I don't see any harm in them honestly. Only thing is now my 4 year old wants them too!
ReplyDeleteLOL at the risk of sounding like a dork, my friends and I who are all in our 20's wear them as well. I got introduced to these by some of the teens I counsel and I really love them. Its another fad, but who cares. A lot of teens and even tweens see it as another way to connect to one another and share with others. Embrace the silliness :)
ReplyDeleteI hate them, but only because I'm a teacher and they are very disruptive. I would have loved them as a kid, though. They are adorable and I can see why the kids are going crazy for them. We haven't banned them yet as a school, but each teacher has that option in his/her own classroom. I haven't banned them in my class...yet. :)
ReplyDeleteLol!! I love them, I recently just got them and they keep you from getting bored at school. Sometimes I draw food and place my sily band animal on top of it or line them up in a animal war on top of my homework. The teacher hasn't caught me yet! I think it would be impossible to band them at my school. Almost everyone has at least two if not more.
ReplyDeleteThey are sooooo cool and everyone in my school are wearing them!
ReplyDeleteI am a 3rd Grade Teacher and both the boys and the girls have them! I have 3 because three of my students gave me one, one being a boy and I am 29! They also have baseball shapes and one 4th Grader showed me she had a Phillies P because everyone at the school knows I am a huge Phils fan and they said you can get them at the stadium so pretty sure any team will have their own silly bands!
