I need block party ideas!
My neighbors & I are at the beginning stages of planning a Block Party. We're going to do it in October, so it can have a Fall Festival feel to it...you know, pumpkin carving, scarecrow making, etc! We already have the permit to close the street...we're going to get a bouncy house, and have some carnival type games, but need more ideas!
Have you ever been to a block party? What were the highlights? Help!

I held a block party about 2 years ago before I moved from my old house. We got permission to close the street, and the police even brought us barricades. Good thing we had that permit paper to because the block behind us, someone complained. Can't please everyone! lol One of the neighbors was a DJ and put these massive speakers on his porch. We also had one yard used for "Adults Only" drinks so the kids didn't get a hold of something they weren't supposed to. That's where the kegs and beer pong table was. We had a USA Carnival theme. water balloon toss, face painting, temporary tattoos for the kids, as well as water guns and other summer time games. Since you are planning yours in October - I like your pumpkin carving and scarecrow making ideas - May I also suggest using the face painting idea and perhaps a baked goods table that the kids can "un-trick or treat" to. If you are using carnival type games, perhaps hand out tickets that can be saved to "buy" prizes. I use many of these ideas with my childcare kids through out the summer, and have MANY more but I won't ramble up your wall.
ReplyDeleteWhile it may not be "fun" you should ask everyone to bring things they no longer need and set up a donation location and call the Rescue Mission to pick them up when the block party is over....The feeling of actually giving back while having a good time would be even more rewarding
