You know your kid is really tired when....

How do you finish that sentence?

Yesterday was my niece, Courtney's 8th bday. She called...and in that adorable voice she has, asked if we would all come out to dinner to celebrate with her. Sounded great! I told Brady...he was all excited to go...he loves hangin' with his cousins! My sister called later and told me we couldn't meet until 6:30pm 'cause my brother-in-law was working until 6pm. My sister's a teacher, so they're all on summer vaca, and her girls are a little older than my kids, so meeting a little later was no big deal for them. Another story for us. Bailey was out, 'cause she's on a schedule and eats by 5:30pm and is in bed by 7pm.she's only 1...and would never make it. Brady can stretch bedtime a little, and he was excited, so we went. John stayed home with Bailey, which I secretly think he was happy about, 'cause he had a long, hot day at work! Dinner ended up getting delayed because of kitchen mistakes, and I could see Brady starting to wilt...and he was really hungry...it was way later than he's used to eating! Bad combo...tired & hungry! He did ok, though...a little whining...nothing major!

But, the moment I knew he was really, really tired was when he asked to go home before dessert came out...you know, the waiters singing, etc. What kid has ever done that? HAHA! He didn't care anymore, he wanted to go home and go to bed. I couldn't believe it! So, we left. He knew his limit, and even though he had talked about having bday cake all day, it no longer mattered!

When do you know your kid is really, really tired?

  1. My daughter just turned 1 (yesterday), and when she gets tired, she will rub her eyes and yawn, but when she's past the point of functioning, lol, she will get really clumsy and start falling over as she's walking. She's usually just on open carpet, thank goodness, so she doesn't hurt herself, but that's when we say "she's done!" and get her ready for a nap (or leave wherever we are to get her home so she can go to sleep).

  2. wow! man, when my brother is tired, he is the worst. I'm talking fits, tantrums, you name it. and that's just when hes slightly tired. i like it when he's worn out better, because he will have a conversation with himself, stare at something for a while and then drift off. lol
